What you need to know

QUICK TIPS FOR VOTERS

  • Check your voter registration status.

  • Locate your polling place and note the hours of operation.

  • Consider voting early or absentee if possible.

  • If you plan to vote at the polls, go early in the day to avoid the last-minute rush.

  • Check to see if you need identification to vote (see Voter ID section).

  • Read all instructions carefully.

  • Take your time.

  • Ask for help if you need it.

Election Day Registation

In the General Election, Maryland voters will vote on a constitutional amendment ballot question that will allow eligible individuals to register to vote at the same time and at the same place as they cast their ballot on election day. Nearly 20,000 Marylanders used Same-Day Registration during the early voting period to register to vote for the first time or update their registration in 2016.

Lock Box Education Bill

In the general election, voters will vote on a Constitutional Amendment to permanently close the Education Trust Fund loophole. It will ensure that casino revenues increase public education spending rather than only keep formulas level.

Voter Empowerment

The ACLU of Maryland has designed a voter empowerment card to help protect your right to vote.  Keep it handy, and take it with you to the polls on Election Day.

Automatic Voter Registration

This year we helped pass the Secure and Accessible Registration Act. In October 2018, the state of Maryland will automatically register citizens to vote, when they interact with certain state agencies like the Motor Vechile Administration (MVA).
